Still having a slight snoozing problem. I set my alarm for 6:10, as I went to bed a tad after 3:00 am, and again didn’t get out of bed until 6:45. On the positive side, it took me much less time to become alert and awake after I got up - hopefully that becomes a trend.

I’m going to do some poking around to find tactics to help motivate myself to get up right when the alarm goes off.  As of the past few nights, I’ve been keeping my window blinds open at night so the morning light will help wake me up, but it appears I need a little more encouragement.

Went to take my first nap at 12:00 noon, and decided to take some pictures of my “gear”. My sleeping bag and camping pad, make for a comfortable bedding in any situation. The sleeping bag is a light weight mummy bag that can keep me warm through the coldest of nights (if indoors) and keep me comfortably covered during the day. I personally fnd comfort and security if I’m covered while napping/sleeping as it make me feel less vulnerable to the outside world. Also included is my pillow, earplugs, and eye cover. I have found earplugs and some sort of eye blineder (before I used a t-shirt) to be key in falling asleep quickly during the day - it is too easy to be distracted by small sounds and bright light.

Took two naps today.  Since I missed my third nap, I just went to be 90 minutes early (at 1:30)to make up for the 1 cycle of missed sleep.

After nap-failure last night, I slept in until 7:10 for a grand total of approximately 6.5 hrs. Ive never felt so rested from so little sleep.

I felt so good I nearly forgot to take my first nap. I wasn’t expecting to sleep well, but decided to give it a shot anyway. I laid down at 12:30 p.m. and to my surprise, I fell asleep quickly and rested quite well. After hearing my 20 min alarm, I was still tired so I gave myself an extra 5 min which seemed to go by in seconds.

I didn’t have a chance to take my 5:30 p.m. nap, but its quite alright - I wasn’t tired anyway. I came home from work early to eat dinner with my parents, and afterwards Brian helped me bottle 10 gallons of beer - yay beer! After finishing, I attempted to take my second nap of the day (around 10:00 p.m.), but couldn’t fall asleep. This is the first time in quite a while where I just laid there unable to clear my mind make myself tired enough to sleep. So instead, I called Ashley [the GF] and then reset my alarm and tried again at 11:00. It still took a while to doze off, but I at least got some rest.

I had a pretty hectic day today so my schedule suffered a bit. The day started with the realization that I had set my alarm for the wrong time - Time out of bed : 6:45.

I had tons of stuff to get done at work (which I actually prefer), but my morning nap didn’t go so well, and my afternoon nap was interrupted by a phone call half way through. On top of that, I delayed my third nap until 12:30 because of racquetball and WoW, and I again set my alarm for the wrong time (p.m. instead of a.m.). I woke up at 2:30 a.m. an decided to just go back sleep and make up for messing up my schedule with some extra core time.

Not a very eventful day. I woke up at 6:15, snoozed until 7ish, and fortunately didn’t have the normal morning haze of tiredness. Didn’t nap very well at 12 noon (even though I was tired at the time) but still felt fine afterward.

On Saturday I was headed down to San Luis Obispo so I took an early nap to make sure I didn’t get tired on the drive.

I only took a single nap later in the day, however didn’t set my alarm right and wound up sleeping for about an hour. I was drowsy afterward, but had no lingering effects after walking around a bit.

I had a pretty bad reaction to poison oak this weekend, so my sleep schedule was a bit disrupted. I planned to sleep as long as possible to give my body more time to heal and because the fewer hours awake, the fewer hours in pain. I went to bed around 1:30 a.m., but unfortunately was only able to sleep until 5:00 before the poison oak got me up. I took a shower and watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas online, and then went to bed again at 8:30 and slept until 11:30 (total night sleep = 6.5 hrs). I felt well rested on Sunday and only took one nap. That night I went to bed early again (12ish) and woke up Monday morning at 4:45 a.m. to drive home and be at work by 8:00. I was happy to discover I was fully awake and had no problems driving between 5am and 8 am after 4.75 hrs of sleep.

Still tired in the morning. Snoozed until 6:45 a.m. This morning took until around 8:30 to shake the last of my drowsinesses.

I took my naps early today (11:00 a.m., 5:30 p.m. and 8:40 p.m.) since I will be picking up Martin, Wyatt, Brandon and Matt from the airport (SFO) and I expect to be driving from 9:30 - 12:30. Oh, and my first two naps were very efficient! I fell asleep very quickly and had vivid dreams most of the duration. A cool side effect is I wake up fairly disoriented and feel like 4-6 hrs have passed instead of just 30 min. Very interesting - I’m not yet sure if that is a good effect or bad.

I took my last nap at 8:40 and left to pick up Martin from San Francisco. The trip was fine - I didn’t get tired one bit.

I woke up at 6:00 am, but was extremely tired and nearly went back to sleep again. I was tired for the first two hours of the morning, but felt pretty good afterwards.

My first nap (11:30) was going alright, but I was woken up 10 min into it - not ideal, but still, some sleep is better than none sleep.

Overall a pretty uneventful evening, nothing else to report.

This morning I woke up after 3 hours of sleep and felt horrible. I decided to sleep in another hour, but either didn’t have an alarm set or slept through it because didn’t wake up until 8:oo (5 hrs sleep). On the positive side, I feel great!

I was able to get some good sleep in my midday nap (12:25-12:50), but I woke up groggy - is 25 min possibly too long of a nap for me?

Took another late nap (8:05-8:24) I cleared my mind quickly, but was half awake for most of the time it seemed. I had some crazy dreams too, but woke up right before my alarm. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some rest in my nap tonight as well.

Was pretty tired after waking up so took my first nap a little early (11:30) and my second nap a little late (8:40)since I am most awake during the middle of the day.

To give you a quick summary of how my first 7 days of the sleep schedule went, I put together the following information:

Core Sleep Hrs

  • Night 0 - 4.5 hrs
  • Night 1 - 4.5 hrs
  • Night 2 - 4.5 hrs
  • Night 3 - 4.5 hrs
  • Night 4 - 5.5 hrs
  • Night 5 - 6.5 hrs
  • Night 6 - 3.0 hrs

Average = 4.7 hrs / night

4.7 hrs + (3 naps x 20 min*) = 5.7 hrs sleep / day

*approimated factoring quality of naps and one skipped nap (Day 4)

Overall I’ve been a little tired at times, but not much more so than if I had slept 6.5 -7 hrs a night for a few days. I’d consider this a sucessful week and a good foundation for the 3 hour core schedule I started last night.
